The person behind
EJ Sports Injury Clinic...
Hi, I'm Emily, a Sports Massage Therapist, also known to be a conversationalist, exercise enthusiast, and general philanthropist. Here's a little bit about me, the person you'll be meeting when you book your appointment...
Why I became a Sports Massage Therapist.
I'm a strong believer in helping others exactly how I would want to be helped, providing support to people with long-term injuries, resolving postural difficulties, identifying and dissipating discomforts. Working as a mobile therapist allows me to provide a safe environment in the comfort of your own home, working around a tight schedule, cutting out all the obstructions of travelling to a clinic.
Sports Massage by name springs to mind 'fitness', 'team sports', 'gym', but in reality, it is the anatomical approach to helping the body with movement which makes it 'Sports' Massage.
Why I believe being active is essential.
There's nothing better than enjoying the smell of fresh air on a sunny day, hearing praise from supporters cheer you on, feeling relief for completing something that felt never-ending. It may be an unpopular opinion but one of my favourite feelings is that post-exercise fatigue reminding me that I've moved just enough to sleep well, but not too much that I struggle through the rest of the day. It's the time when I reflect on the activity I did, whether it be good stats from a run or that amazing gameplay in a team sport, that teammate that made me laugh. Being active provides so much more than you think - endorphins release, energy is used, good mental health restored, achievements aimed for, perseverance built, friendships formed, anger controlled, I could go on!
When my love of being active started.
It's hard to pinpoint when I first knew I was a lover of sports because it's always been a part of my life, but hockey is a hobby I am passionate about playing. At just 8 years old in school, I picked up my first hockey stick, going on to join a local hockey club playing adult ladies hockey at age 14. I also played school level athletics and netball, personal fitness, and running, but some ongoing issues kept me from fulfilling my full potential and enjoyment.
How playing hockey and my job combined.
Suffering on and off with 'shin splints' through the years I knew I needed to learn about my injury instead of ignoring it, hoping I would 'grow out of it', and instead, provide self-care that would allow me to enjoy playing without pain. Academically I was always a mid to high level grade student, but never had a clear career vision. I knew I wanted to do something active, involving sport or exercise, so after some encouragement from a family member studying Sports Rehabilitation at Uni, I joined a Sports Therapy diploma course.
Starting Sports Massage.
After qualifying a couple of years after the Covid-19 pandemic, in 2022 EJ Sports Injury Clinic was born! It was hard to discover which approach I wanted to enrol, whether holistic, clinical, or sports, but setting up my own business allowed me to challenge myself, help myself recover, and most importantly help people like you. Over the years I have encountered multiple different health conditions, post-surgical scars, postural anomalies and learnt from each and every client. Working with Cricket and rugby clubs in my early years has enabled me to learn about and assist with injuries on and off pitch, being as efficient as possible within game time.
How my approach works.
I work on a person-by-person basis, meaning each and every individual is different, seeking a different approach each time. Some want a relaxing slow deep tissue method, others with less pressure, and the brave ones who want to be 'beaten up' (you'd love some of the names I've been called).
I not only provide Sports Massage for improvements of injuries or ailments, but also for people who seek maintenance or prevention of general aches and pains. A substantial portion of my clients work from home or a job that requires sitting for long periods (desk job, lorry driver, etc), so my sports massage technique focuses on the muscles which cause the most issues that affect you everyday, but also prevention from further issues.
Why I am constantly learning.
I have only recently (2026) discovered that I am hypermobile in my joints, which in short means I am more flexible than the average person. There are always new techniques and approaches to learn as the years go by which excites me for the future.
Thank you for reading my background and I look forward to meeting you when you book in!
Em :)
