Your Questions, Answered

If any questions you have are not listed please visit the 'Contact Me' page and submit any enquiries to my email or mobile. :)

How should I prepare for my first treatment?

Ensure you have enough space cleared for my massage couch, in a quiet room with blinds/curtains for privacy. Recall all symptoms you are experiencing or have experienced, along with how long ago they began, and how they started. Wear clothing that is easy to remove and please let me know if you are anxious before treatment begins. The initial 10-15 mins will include a consultation and information/consent form before any body analysis or massage begins.

How often shall I book a massage if I need more than 1 session?

It is completely dependent on your progress and experience from the 1st!

For example, I treat a regular client, male, 87 yrs, who requires monthly sessions for maintenance of tension relief. However, he benefitted from a few fortnightly sessions in between.

I have treated other clients who book in within the same week whenever they feel they need it and times between bookings can be weeks or months apart.

Is there anything health wise that can stop me from having a massage?

These are called Contraindications.

Massage can NOT be performed if you have:

A fracture, infectious disease, skin burns, open wounds, blood clots, cancer (may spread the disease through blood/lymphatic flow), had Radiotherapy within the last 6 months, a cognitive disorder and can not consent.

Areas that should be avoided are:

Abdomen during pregnancy, where deep vein thrombosis is most prominent, areas of inflammation and swelling.

How far do you travel?

The furthest treatment I have travelled for was almost 20 miles from Melksham. As I am a mobile therapist I travel to clients houses which uses fuel and time, making my work times more dependent on location. I charge only £5 for any destination 11 miles and above.

Does a Sports Massage hurt?

Deep tissue massage only hurts if the therapist does not communicate with their client. Luckily I am great with communication so always ask my clients if the pressure is ok and if they are comfortable.

There are certain areas where the body may be more tender whether it be due to tension, knots or injury. Trigger pointing can be painful as it involves the therapist pressing their elbow or thumbs into a knotted area to force tension release. If you communicate how you are feeling to me, I will ensure I make you feel as comfortable as possible.

How will Dry Cupping benefit me?

Everyone is different so Dry Cupping causes everyone's bodies to respond in different ways.

The role of Dry Cupping is to create a vacuum on the skin, drawing blood to the surface to remove stagnant blood containing toxins, improved blood circulation, reduced muscle tension, scar tissue repair, improved mobility and range of motion, pain relief, and stimulation of the nervous system.

The side effects include: A circular cupping mark that remains for 5-20days, temporary discomfort, mild nausea, swelling mark on skin, sweat extraction, emotional release, e.g., crying.

Please not: not all of these side effects apply to everyone.
